"Grignard Chemistry"

to the tune of "Who'll Stop The Rain"
by Creedence-Clearwater-Revival

Lyrics and vocals: Juliane Fließbach

Performed by Juliane Fließbach, Olga Gerbold,
Diana Bergmann and Christina Leibig

Long as I remember, the chemistry walks on.
Big bang, atoms, glorious change - from metal getting gold.
Good men through the ages, tryin’ to find the way;
And I wonder, yes I wonder, who’ll stop chemistry.

I went down to Munich, learning what I need
to understand the mystery of Grignard chemistry.
Put some chips of magnesium to alkylhalide.
Dried ether brings the season that carbon turns around.

Let us try to look from here what the carbon do.
Charges want to change their signs from plus to minus too.
Some aldehyde we're taking and mix it in the bowl,
Sprinkle it with water and getting alcohol.

(Who's gonna stop us now?)

Created and performed March 2004 by students of Professor Steffen Glaser's organic chemistry class at the Technische Universität München.
